Emily has never made an apple pie. She sorted through recipe after recipe to find one that was easy for her and used the ingredients we had in the house. This is what she came up with.
Ingredients:
1 ready made pie crust made to manufactures directions
Filling:
6 cups of pealed, cored, thinly cut Granny Smith Apples
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 table spoons of all purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Top Crust:
1 cup flour
1/3 cup shorting
1/2 teaspoon salt
7 tablespoons of cold water (add more if needed)
1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 tablespoon sugar
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Emily cooked pie crust to manufactures directions.
In a large mixing bowl mix all of the filling ingredients till the apples are coated.
Place the filling inside the cooked crust and sprinkle some extra cinnamon and sugar for good measure (to taste).
Top of pie:
In a mixing bowl combine all of the ingredients except the cinnamon and sugar. Mix thoroughly.
Put flower on a cutting board and roll dough out with a rolling pin and cut into strips. Place on pie in any design you desire.
Then sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar on top.
Place in preheated 400 degree oven for 30 minutes. The time may very depending on your oven.
Emily removed it when the crust on top was the desired color.
Hope you enjoy!
